Discover Brisbane’s History (3 days)

Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th April 2022

Discover and learn on this three day tour steeped in history.

Day 1: Welcome aboard!  Travelling south to Brisbane pause for lunch at the Breakfast Creek Hotel then make our way to Boggo Road Gaol where we discover the history of Queensland’s most notorious prison.  Our knowledgeable guide will lock us inside, while telling us about the crimes and daily life of prisoners, officer’s duties, riots and roof-top protests.  Make sure you behave while on this tour, or you might find yourself permanently in a cell!

Day 2: Cruise across the bay on board the Cat-o’-Nine Tails to arrive at St Helena Island where today’s history lesson begins, starting from aboriginal beginnings to the Nineteenth Century Prison Settlement, with sometimes sad but often funny stories.  Take time out for a special picnic lunch before completing our day’s adventure.

Day 3: Before departing Brisbane we visit the Victoria Barracks / Military Museum of Brisbane.  Our guided tour includes a tour of the barracks, an historical presentation, a silver-service Devonshire Tea in the Officers Mess and a souvenir booklet.  All too soon our adventure is coming to an end, with arrival back in Maryborough late afternoon.  ** This tour does involve a moderate amount of walking and standing.
