Trade Qualified Diesel Mechanic
– Permanent Full Time
About the role
We are seeking a Trade Qualified Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Wide Bay Transit in Hervey Bay on Queensland’s Fraser Coast. As a full-time role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of our fleet of diesel-powered vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable and meet all regulatory requirements.
What you’ll be doing
- Conducting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults and issues in a timely manner
- Maintaining accurate records of all vehicle maintenance and repairs
- Adhering to all safety protocols and ensuring a safe work environment
- Collaborating with the wider team to ensure the efficient operation of the fleet
What we’re looking for
Formal trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics or Automotive Mechanics
- Experience working as a Diesel Mechanic, ideally within the automotive or transportation industry
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality work
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- A current driver’s licence (HR Licence desirable but not compulsory)

Yard Person / Trade Assistance for Mechanical Workshop
– Permanent Full Time | $26.20 per hour
About the role
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Yard Person-Trade Assistant to join our team in Hervey Bay on the Fraser Coast, QLD. As a full-time employee, you will be responsible for looking after the depot grounds and providing valuable support to our experienced mechanics as directed.
What you’ll be doing
- Assisting mechanics with a variety of tasks, including servicing, repairing and maintaining a range of vehicles and equipment as directed
- Performing basic maintenance and repair work under the supervision of qualified mechanics
- Ensuring the workshop is kept clean, tidy and well-organised
- Ensuring the general appearance of the yard is maintained and kept in a clean and tidy state including mowing, trimming, rubbish removal etc
- Adhering to all safety procedures and policies to ensure a safe working environment
What we’re looking for
- Previous experience in a similar trade assistant or labourer role (preferably within a mechanical or automotive workshop but not mandatory)
- Strong practical skills and the ability to follow instructions and work with your hands
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A current driver’s licence
- A forklift licence (desirable but not mandatory)

Casual School Bus Driver
– Glenwood/Bauple | $37.02 per hour
About the role
Wide Bay Transit is seeking a Casual School Bus Driver in Glenwood and/or Bauple, QLD. In this role, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, ensuring their wellbeing and following all relevant safety protocols. As a casual employee, you will work a minimum of 15 hours per week over three days with provision for extra hours when required.
- Safely operate a school bus to transport students to and from school
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all passengers
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus
- Maintain accurate records of student counts and any incidents
- Provide excellent customer service to students and parents
What we’re looking for
- A current and valid driver’s licence (minimum of a Light Rigid class)
- A current Industry Authority (or the ability to obtain one)
- Experience driving a bus or large vehicle, preferably in a school or public transport setting
- Excellent driving skills and a demonstrated commitment to safety
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- The ability to remain calm and focused in challenging situations
- A genuine interest in working with children and young people
